The Peach County High Trojans are located in Fort Valley, Georgia. The Trojans currently have a record of 14-0 this season and are scheduled to compete against the Gainesville Red Elephants this Saturday for the Georgia 3A State Championship. Gainesville High school currently holds the # 47 position in your national rankings. Peach County High School does not hold a position in your national rankings. Both teams are undefeated in the same division. Out of the 14 games the Trojans have competed in this season, they have only allowed more than 14 points in one game. The Trojans have accomplished more this year than any other 3A football team in Georgia. For starters, the Trojans defeated last year’s 3A State Champions (Cairo High School) during the regular season. At the end of the regular season 6 of the top 10 teams ranked by the Associated Press landed on Peach County’s side of the playoff bracket. The remaining 4 of the top 10 teams were on Gainesville’s side of the bracket. Furthermore, Four 3A teams remained undefeated at the end of regular season play. 3 out of 4 of the remaining undefeated teams were on Peach County’s side of the playoff bracket. It’s safe to say that the Trojans had a more challenging road to the State Championship than Gainesville had.

Enough about this season, maybe the history of the Peach County Trojans is not known by those who are doing the rankings. The Peach County High School Football Program is one of the most consistent winning football programs in the state of Georgia. The Trojans have been in the state playoffs for the last 18 consecutive seasons (1991-2008). During these 18 football seasons, Peach County has won 11 Region championships. The Trojans have made 5 State Championship appearances (1992, 1998, 2003, 2005 and 2006). Out of the 5 State Championship appearances, the Trojans won back to back State Championships in 2005 and 2006.

There is no question that the Peach County Trojans can compete successfully against other Georgia teams that are listed in your rankings. In fact Peach County has competed against a few of them. Peach County is 2 ? 0 against #86 ranked Lowndes. Although it holds little to no weight, but it is a fact, the Peach County Trojans and the #4 ranked Northside Eagles met in a pre season scrimmage this year. The scrimmage ended in a 14 ? 14 tie. Also, Peach County is the only team in recent history to earn back to back shut outs against the #4 ranked Northside (1996, 1997). In 1997, when Peach County was shutting out Northside and consistently making state playoff appearances, #47 ranked Gainesville’s record was 1-9 followed by 3 consecutive seasons with records less than .500. Peach County hasn’t had a football season record less than .500 since 1986, due to forfeiting 8 wins because of an ineligible player.

As with any great football program, outstanding athletes are produced. Peach County has produced 8 NFL players to include former ALL Pro Line Backer Greg Lloyd (Pittsburgh Steelers). Peach County has produced too many college football players to name all. However, I will mention the 2000 Walter Payton Award recipient Louis Ivory (Furman).

With a win against #47 ranked Gainesville this Saturday, Peach County will have achieved the school’s first undefeated football season along with winning the schools 3rd State Championship in 5 years.
