Q&A with Hillgrove linebacker Braylon Hansbrough

How did the high school football season go overall?
“The season went well. We had a lot of key players transfer out and a lot of young guys had to step up and we played well in quite a few games but did not get as many victories as we would have liked but we did make the playoffs and that was good for the program.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I work basically year-round to keep my body in condition for the season. I don't play 7 on 7 because as an ILB it creates bad tackling habits and is not realistic for the position I play. I work on a lot of speed and agility from January to August. I also have put on around 15 pounds since the end of the season. I played at 195 my junior year and I want to be between 215 and 220 this year. I am also working to be a better (more vocal) leader this year.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I think we are going to be good. I think you will see a considerable improvement in our offense now that we have some experience and we have to replace Zion Rutledge, Knox Henderson and Tyler Green on defense, even though it will not be easy to fill their shoes, we have some GUYS that are ready to step in and make plays.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Carrollton, hands down. They are loaded. We played them as tough as anyone last year but they are a good team with a ton of talent.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“JuJu Lewis from Carrolltonlives up to all the hype. He has a great arm and he knows how to get himself out of trouble in the pocket and still find the open man. Also, RJ Echols at McEachern is a beast on both sides of the ball. I played park ball and middle school ball with him and he is the only person I know that may work harder than I do to get better in the offseason.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, I want a shot to play college football. I love the sport and everything it teaches me about life and teamwork.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I have had conversations with GT, Auburn, Kent State, Mercer, App. State and Georgia State.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“No schools that I know or recruiting me hard.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“Yes, I have visited Mercer, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Florida State and Kennesaw State.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“We are working on some visits currently.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I am an Alabama fan. I love the team and the way they play.”

Q&A with Hillgrove defensive lineman Johnathan Cummings

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“I do want to play sports in college, the sport that I want to play is of course football. I chose football because I genuinely love the sport of football and not only have I put in multiple hours of training in for this sport, this is the way that I have found out that I can help my family do the things they want to do and allow my mom not to work so many jobs to support me and my sister. I want to make it all the way to where potentially I own my own football team one day.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I currently don't have any schools that are recruiting me at the moment, but I have been going to multiple showcases and camps and over this summer this year my plan is to go to multiple college camps where I can get my name out there for more colleges to know who I am.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“The colleges that I hope to recruit me the hardest [are those that give] D1 offers.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“I have not made any college trips yet, but my plan is to go to the camps and ask for a tour of their campus.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“I do have some paled trips for the summertime.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I did have a favorite college growing up. I actually had two of them. The two colleges that are my favorite are Texas A&M and the Texas Longhorns. These two are my favorite colleges because for one, I'm from Texas, and for two, I just think they're really good schools. The position I play in football is defensive line and from time to time I play a little bit of offensive line.”

......................................................................................................
Q&A with Hillgrove defensive lineman Johnathan Cummings
How did the high school football season go overall?
“My overall high school football season was kind of a miracle, I say a miracle because most people would say you're going to lose most of your games you're not make it to the playoffs this year. What I mean by that is some people would say "oh I'm not going to the Friday night game because it's just a waste of money they're going to lose anyway.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans with sports and working out are to get better as a person and a teammate. And with workouts to understand the reason for what the workouts will help with at my position.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I feel my team will do way better than what we did this year for the season. I believe that we will for sure make it further than what we did this year which was just to the first-round playoffs. I believe that we have the chances to make it to the championship and win it.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“The team that I feel would be the toughest competition on our schedule is nobody. I say nobody because the only person that stops us is ourselves and the work that we put in so far it doesn't look like no one can hold us up.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“The toughest individual player will face off against this year is ourselves because we're the only one that can make ourselves lay down and give up and the way that we're training so far it doesn’t look like we're willing to lay down for nobody.”

......................................................................................................
Q&A with North Cobb linebacker Grayson Hodges
How did the high school football season go overall?
“The football season ended well. We made it to round two of the playoffs. I ended the season with over 147 total tackles, 107 solo, 5 sacks & 8 tfls.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“After the season I wrestled for the first time. Since wrestling ended in February I’ve been working out with my trainers four days a week and hitting the gym with my dad 2 to 3 days a week. So I’m working.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“We are looking really good. I’m pretty confident we’ll have one of our best seasons this year.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“I feel Walton will be our toughest competition this season.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“N/A.”

......................................................................................................
Q&A with Arabia Mountain defensive back Jordan Miller
How did the high school football season go overall?
“The high school football season overall went decent, but we left a lot on the table. Our team was young and were just getting the opportunity to play on the varsity football level. Personally, I had a good junior season how I needed to and ended up earning first team all-region, player of the year, and several all-star game invitations. I impacted each game on all three levels (offense, defense, and special teams) and led my team in receiving yards.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“My plans with sports and workouts are to get faster and put on some muscle mass. I am currently running track and attending football workouts early in the morning to get more explosive. This track season I’ve been competing at a high level in mainly triple jump, but I also compete in long jump, 300m hurdles, and a couple relays such as 4x1 and 4x2. The morning workouts are intense led by my phenomenal Coach Washington! The goal is to try to get the team on one accord and one mindset for the upcoming season. If everyone chimes in together, watch out for Arabia Mountain.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“This upcoming season I believe that my football team will play to our standard! This is the year that we finally put the pieces together, the playmakers make plays, everybody does their job, nobody is selfish, and we all are playing fast and physically at a high level.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Personally, I believe our toughest opponent will be our somewhat “rival” Stephenson Jaguars. I say them because they have a solid foundation up front with their O-line. Last year, we came up short against them and beat ourselves once again with little mistakes such as holding that calls back a touchdown or on 4th and 15th we allowed a 30+ yard gain on a screen.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“The toughest individual our team will face is ourselves! We are our biggest opponent and we control how far we will go. We have all the pieces and athletes together to do something special. It is going to take being committed and dedicated to one another to get where we want too.”

......................................................................................................
Q&A with Hillgrove defensive back Daniel Okonkwo
How did the high school football season go overall?
“I think the season was a growth year, and therefore wasn’t as surprising as some think. We were a younger team, and we’re still adjusting to the dismissal of many core players. So I feel it was a great season in regards to moving forward.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“I am currently running track, and plan to play summer baseball and participate in summer football camps and practice.”

How do you feel your team will do next football season?
“I feel we will be much better than last season considering the growth and experience of our team throughout the season and offseason.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Carrollton.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“I’m not sure about that one, 90% of teams we play have at least one of those highly performing players.”

Q&A with Milton linebacker Hayden Tumminia

How did the high school football season go overall?
“Football season went fantastic. Despite graduating some amazing senior leaders our team was able to reload, win a region championship, and make it to the GA 7A semifinals. We also had the opportunity to host Lipscomb Academy (Nashville, TN) in the Freedom Bowl and traveled to the football hall of fame in Canton, OH and played Christian Brothers (St. Louis, MO) at Tom Benson Stadium. Both of those teams went on to win state championships in their respective states and divisions.”

What are your plans now with sports and workouts?
“This off season I decided to run track. I made varsity running the 50m, 150m, and 300m. In addition, I earned a spot on the YPL Elite 18u team. My goal for both of those was to work on speed and playing in space. I've maintained work on lateral speed with Coach Dustyn Moore from Moore Sports Performance, routine lifting regimen to continue to put on good size. I also work with Coach Payne and Coach Goodwell from Next Level Backer. There we spent at least an hour breaking down film to help better understand the offensive schedule. We then take that knowledge and go to the field to work on fundamentals.”

“Our coaches do a great job exposing us to adversity with a tough schedule early in the season to ensure we are prepared when it counts most. Playing a tough schedule forces us to face our team's strengths and weaknesses. The bonds we build on those trips allow us to get to know teammates off the field which paves the way to an unmatched brotherhood.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“Man, there are so many studs in Georgia 7a (SEC of high school football). Too many to name.”

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Football, it has always been a dream for as long as I can remember.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“I have started to develop closer relationships and more frequent contact with schools like Northwestern, Georgia Tech, Western Kentucky, University of Houston, UNLV, UAB, Central Michigan, Old Dominion, Wofford, Liberty, Austin Peay, Bucknell, and Lafayette.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“I would say it is even right now. I am excited for camp season, continue building relationships, and God-willing earn my first offer.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“Last summer, I took several unofficial visits including UCONN, Auburn, Western Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Mercer, Lehigh, Wofford and Lafayette.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“I am in the process of building out my summer visit and camp schedule. My first visit and camp will be at Northwestern.”

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I grew up in New Jersey so college football wasn't nearly as followed as it is here in Georgia. I followed Penn State and went to a "white out" game once and you could literally feel the ground shake. That was an amazing experience. I also grew up rooting for Rutgers because it was the school closest to my home. And, also Robert Morris University because that's where my dad played football.”

......................................................................................................

Q&A with Hillgrove quarterback Toryn Wilkins

Do you want to play sports in college? If so, which one?
“Yes, I want to continue running the football offense at the next level and play on Saturdays.”

What colleges have been recruiting you?
“The recruiting process is very slowly warming up right now. I understand it is a two-way process for some players like me so I will be pushing more to create more pulling in the future. I will do more outreach to schools along with more winning with my team to improve my chances. Also, I’m attending events like QB Legacy, NextGen Showcase, UC Report, Manning Passing, Elite11 this year as well as going to several of the on-campus college camps to open some more eyes.”

What school is recruiting you the hardest?
“Actually, I’m deep cover right now. I don’t have any schools knocking my door down yet, so I’ll keep working on my academics and athletics to make it easy for them and hard for me to choose. I think my film will show and prove the player I am and how I can elevate players around me. I hope this article helps, too.”

Have you made any college trips yet?
“In the past (pre-Covid), I have visited Clemson, Mercer, and Mississippi State unofficially but last year I was focused on the varsity starter role, so I didn’t make any trips to work out with my teammates and get the chemistry down. That will change this year.”

Do you have plans for any trips soon?
“This year, I will get back on the visit circuit with good varsity film and great grades to share. Right now, I’m looking at both NCAA D1 and D2 and NAIA schools across the country and will cast a wide net to create awareness with the coaches and recruiting coordinators. Worst case, my grades will get me in, and I’ll walk on and beat someone out like Stetson Bennett did at UGA. “

Did you have a favorite college growing up?
“I was a fan of Florida State when Jameis Winston was their QB but grew fond of Clemson after going to the campus and attending football and basketball camps over several summers.”
