......................................................................................................
Q&A with Marist middle linebacker Wyatt Alford
What have you been doing as of late with off-season workouts?
“I have been doing my team morning workouts and practices and our weekly 7v7 practices, but outside of that, I have been working a lot in the weight room and with speed work with my trainer Anthony Daisy of EBE, for roughly 5 days a week, about 2-2.5 hours each session. I am also working on my LB skills and footwork/agility with Stephon Morris of PX (PrimeXample) and other high-school and college LBs and DBs. Finally, I work with my teammates outside practice to get our work in with 1v1s, 2v2s, etc.”

What do you feel you have improved on most this off-season?
“I have definitely improved most on my footwork/movement and pass coverage at linebacker. I have done this by working on my 10-yard speed with Anthony. I have also worked on this with Stephon Morris of PX by doing group sessions with many DB drills emphasizing pass coverage and footwork. Working as a DB then allows me to challenge myself to have the movement of a DB so that I am more than prepared to take on LB. My work at PX has made covering at LB significantly easier, and I am moving laterally and cutting better than ever before.”

How do you feel your team will do this football season?
“I am very confident in how Marist will perform this season. We are a top team in 6A and will compete for a state championship because of our incredible coaching, and that is what I have my eyes set on. Last year we lost in the Quarters to Rome in a game that I think we would win this year. Last year our team was mostly Juniors toward the end of the season, so now we are all seniors and are ready to compete. Marist will put the whole state on notice after we play at Gainesville in week 1.”

What team do you feel will be the toughest competition on your schedule?
“Gainesville. They are coming off a state championship visit, but I am most excited about this game than any other because my teammates and I are ready to go into their house and show them what the Long Blue Line means after our loss last year.”

Who is the toughest individual player your team will face off against?
“The best player we will face off against is Sammy Brown of Jefferson. We play them to start the season in a scrimmage.”
